Sports
The Sports activities help to strengthen team work, build espirit-de-corp,
a sense of belonging and pride, to strive for excellence and thus
will produce a healthy and fit Community.
Participating in sports by the Association actually began in 1939
when the Association won the Football Association of Selangor League
and Knock-Out Football competitions. During the Japanese Occupation,
sports was on a recreational basis. The Sports Section of the Association
was revived from 1947 after the surrender of the Japanese and it
grew into providing sporting activities for members in soccer, cricket,
hockey, badminton, tennis and athletics.
In the 1950's and 60's sports motivated many Eurasian youth - both
men and ladies to join the Association. Soccer, hockey and cricket
were popular games in which the Association excelled in the various
competitions organized in Selangor. Notable sportspersons from the
Association are Mike Shepherdson and Geoff Toft who represented
Malaya in Hockey at the Melbourne Olympics in 1956 where Malaya
participated for the first time in the Olympics Games. Other national
sportspersons from the Association were Fay Siebel, Cheryl Dorall
and Donald Rodrigo in athletics.
